Zonulin

Zonulin is a human protein that binds to a specific receptor on the surface of epithelial cells of the intestinal barrier.

Zonulin activates a cascade of biochemical events that induce the opening of tight junctions, thereby increasing the permeability of intestinal epithelial cells, allowing various substances to pass through the intestinal barrier and trigger autoimmune reactions.

It has been found that in patients with celiac disease and type 1 diabetes mellitus, the zonulin-zonulin receptor system is more strongly activated, resulting in an increased concentration of zonulin.

Zonulin is a protein that regulates the permeability of the intestinal barrier.
